Nils Kenaston was born in New Delhi, India, and grew up in Singapore, Malaysia, and San Francisco. He graduated with a B.A. in Art and Semiotics from Brown University in 1989. The following year he attended the Hoch Schule der Kunst and witnessed the collapse of the Berlin Wall, capturing his experience on Super-8 film. In 1991 he moved to New York City and began freelancing as a camera assistant and assitant editor. His early jobs included Todd Haynes' Poison and Ang Lee's Pushing Hands. Since 1994 he has shot over a dozen feature films and numerous documentaries. He has enjoyed shooting on such far-flung locations as Israel, Egypt, Kenya, Russia, Australia and Morocco. His work has been included in the Berlin Film Festival, the Whitney Biennial, Slamdance, and the Student Academy Awards. He lives in New York City with his wife and dog.
